Clearing and hay cutting

This one hectare site adjoins nearby SSSI floodplain meadow. Bought by Ryton Parish Council, the site has been neglected for many years and is in great need of restoration to species rich meadow. Working with the parish council, we are controlling Japanese knotweed, clearing brambles and shrubs and reinstating a cycle of annual hay cutting.

Scheme volunteers are being trained in plant identification to monitor change on the site.
