On the 24th / 25th April 2021, the stone-age themed entrance arch was installed at Ryton Pools Country Park’s Children’s Wood, which was funded through the scheme’s interpretation project work.
It complements the Straight-tusked Elephant sculpture near Pagets Pool. Between them they help raise awareness of the significant stone age finds uncovered on the site during quarrying (a Straight-tusked Elephant tooth, and a hand axe dated at 500,000 years old).
The arch will not only serve as an exciting entrance to Children’s Wood, but also as a great reference tool for adding context to our stone age education programmes.
